Walks start from the Forestry Commission car park at Roosthole (where there is a map and information board) and follow a wide, compacted stone path north for approx. 600m. After this point, there are several trails to choose from (depending on how long you wish to walk), some of which are good options for winter walks, as the paths are relatively mud-free.
The terrain is generally flat or gently sloping and whilst not a smooth ride, the compacted stone surfaces of the main paths are felt to be pushchair and wheelchair friendly. The bridleway (marked with horseshoe symbols on the map) is best avoided, as it can get extremely muddy!
Avoid getting lost by taking a photograph of the map on the information board (car park) when you arrive and using it to guide you through the forest (as mobile data is lacking in parts of the forest). Whilst footpaths are marked with signposts, the various trails are not marked with different colours.
