There are actually two beaches at Littlehampton - East and West beach, one either side of the River Arun. East Beach is a traditional resort-style beach, with promenade, amusements and seaside fun. In contrast, sand dune backed West Beach is quiet and does not have a promenade, but is great for exploring! Click here to find out more about West Beach. 

There are lots of parking options along East Beach seafront, with large car parks at either end of the promenade. 

 

East Beach promenade is generally wide and wheel-friendly. Cycling is permitted along the seafront (from the River Arun to Wave Leisure Centre), although pedestrians have priority.

Dogs can be walked on the promenade along East Beach year-round. Although welcome on the beach in low-season, dogs are not allowed to be exercised on East Beach beach between 1st May and 30th September. In contrast, dogs are allowed on the beach year-round at West Beach.

Toilet facilities (inc. an accessible toilet) are located on the seafront, close to the Harvester and Windmill Theatre. 

Fancy a picnic? A green space containing 15 picnic tables (known as Picnic on the Green) is located on the seafront, adjacent to the Harvester restaurant (see map).  

East Beach Cafe (shaped like a giant piece of driftwood!) is, in our opinion, the best seafront lunch option. It is popular, so we recommend booking. There is some outdoor seating available, but only snacks purchased from the kiosk are served here. There is also a large Harvester restaurant at the Harbour end of the promenade, with parking close by.

What to See and Do Along the Seafront:

Lion's Den:  Good play park suitable for children under 14 years. Featuring (amongst other equipment) a large wooden climbing frame, nest-style swing, zip wire and giant sand pit. There is also a separate, enclosed area for young children. Situated beside the East Beach Cafe.

Skate Park: Opened in September 2019, this large concrete skate park has some great features for young enthusiasts. Located on the seafront, next to the Wave Leisure Centre (BN16 2NA)

UK's Longest Bench: This 324 metre-long sculptural artwork twists and winds its way along the seafront between two striking metal shelters.

Harbour Park: Although not free, this family amusement park dominates the harbour-end of the seafront. Consisting of a mix of outdoor rides, indoor arcade and soft play, there is plenty of fun to be had here. 

Harbour Wall: Great place for a walk, following the River Arun inland from the sea. The harbour wall is a good place to go crabbing and there are several shops here selling equipment.
